The Willard InterContinental’s famous Peacock Alley undergoes a Chinese transformation this fall with Tea Chinois, a dramatic afternoon tea experience. Tea-goers are treated to a multi-sensual experience inspired by Chinoserie, the 17th- and 18th- century Western esthetic representing fanciful European interpretations of Chinese styles. Guests can sample European and Chinese flavors, incorporated into items such as ginger, Mandarin mousse and green tea meringues, along with traditional tea offerings like Lapsang Souchong, organic Dragonwell and Thousand Days Red Jasmine. To welcome the Terra Cotta Warriors, TenPenh will offer a special Terra Cotta Pot lunch special and Emperor’s Choice three-course prix fixe dinner special, focusing on a different spice prominent in Chinese cooking each week. Dishes including Sichuanese Braised Fish in Spicy Sauce feature spices such as chives, Chinese pepper, cinnamon and coriander that date back to the era of the Warriors’ creation.
